Short Breaks for Carers of people with Functional Mental Health

Aim

The purpose is to deliver flexible short-breaks for carers of adults in Sandwell,
which improve their quality of life, prevent breakdown, and enable them to
continue in their caring role for as long as they want to.

A carer is defined as someone who:

‘Spends a significant proportion of their life providing support on an unpaid basis. This could be caring for a relative, partner or friend who is ill, frail, disabled or has a mental health or substance misuse problem.’

 

Criteria. Carers who meet one or more of the following:

Provide over 20 hours of
unpaid support per week
Live with the person they care
for

Support more than one person

Are in poor health (physical or
mental) themselves

Facing emergency or crisis
situations

Are sole carers, i.e. have no
other family members or
friends involved
